BP questions UPDATE (version 2)
""UPDATED"" ==> "UPDATE"
So, I have lost 33lbs so far!! Woo Hoo!
I cut the caffeine, alcohol, sugar out - cold turkey.
My salt intake is a lot less.... I watch labels but don't put any salt on anything either. Mrs Dash has helped a lot. I think I bought every 'no salt' flavor she has!!
I eat a lot of oat meal and egg whites, salads, and chicken.
I still retain water!!! WTF! I drink tons of water!! and I'm taking my meds....
******************
Update = This post was "denied for content" WTF!!!!???
I know there's a few of you in the medical field.
Some of you might have seen on my FB account that I've had some Med issues lately going on and had to get blood tests, CT scan, etc.... I have to see a Neurologist now too next month.
I have always had High BP..... Not really ever done anything about it. I just thought I was a spaz!
But, I went in with 189/120 a few weeks ago and the DR told me he wouldn't help me with any other issues until my BP rate went down..... ASAP! They are worried I am so high that it has effected my sight and brain tissue.
With all the crap I've been through lately (Death in fam, 2 break-ins, work-stress, looking for a new house, etc) I just thought I was having a break down.
I'd like to know what are your suggestions to lower BP? Also want to lower Colesteral levels. (I am eating oatmeal daily now)
What are some good foods?? (I have tried to cut out salt- everything tastes like crap)
I have lost 14lbs in a few weeks because I am dieting also. I just don't really know what to buy! I can't believe how many items have so much salt!!
Thanks in advance....Any ideas or suggestions??

Well with the stress in your life...thats one sure fire reason for your blood pressure to be up there. But there are lots of other things that bring it up too!. The docs want to make sure. As far as the cholesterol, I was on pills for that and found that my levels were not coming down fast enough. Since I had started a diet at one time I decided to take Alli and believe it or not my levels came down 3 times faster with that then the prescibed crestor that I was on (Go figure). The best foods for you to eat are the ones you make yourself and then you would have control over the salt that you take in. I know its hard but YES every freaking thing has 220mg of salt or better these days. Also try to eat lots of fresh greens....and lots of fruits but not too many bananas! These are my suggestions only. I am not a doctor, nor a nurse....LOL

Kim, are there any real good health clubs in your areas? Like Lifetime Fitness Centers? A place that knows nutrition. I did a test on the treadmill, it was not free, to determine your metabolic heart rate. Dieting is eating correctly, not as in not eating. Oatmeal is good if you cook it, and not use the instant stuff. Kashi go lean is a better choice. I consume 1800 calories a day; everyone is different. I eat 5 times a day. A big breakfast, a snack no more than 3 hours later, lunch, another snack and than dinner. Don't eat 2 hours before you go to bed. I would go ask someone at a health food store for supplements. In March my total cholesterol was 194, and it's down to 165, and I'm down to 180 from the 190's in weight.
Start a good attainable exercise program and have some sex.

Oh wow getting old is a bitch and I don't feel I'm getting old but my body doesn't agree with my feelings. I'm a skinny little boy from Cleveland ohio and my colesterol was 389 and I had high blood pressure.
Listen, the meds take more then two weeks to really take effect. I don't suggest you wait it out as I'm sure your Dr is monitoring the issue. What I can say is that if you have purchased a home BP monitor and take two readings a day, THEN worry that the readings are high, well the worrying will cause the pressure to tise and you are defeating the purpose. Maybe take the readings, don't look at the results, just let tem go into the memory of the unit and then the DR can retrive them at a future visit.
The best thing to lower the pressure is to get DAILY EXERCISE. This doesn't have to mean running for a half hour each day. Any activeity that lasts about twenty minutes and gets you heart rate to increase a bit is what is needed. A bike ride or a BRISk mail walk is good. Heck swimming done right will even help.
I would seriously ask the DR if he would put you on an anti anxity med as well. The stress will drive that pressure up like you wouldn't bellieve.
Not that it helps you but I am on Prenzide which is a water pill combined with an different thing I can't remember at the moment but I know it's not a staton blocker. I also take lipitor for the colesterol and Paxil for the nerves.
Also about every two hours you should stop all you're doing and meditate. Just a few minutes of not listening to anyone or anything. Do like Happy Gilmore and go to your happy place for a few minutes.. Yeah it sounds odd but it is very effective.
On a bit of a different note, the best stress reliever and good for any ailment is SEX. The endorfines released during that activity does the whole body good. If you need halp with this part, I'm here for you.

When you get used to the meds you'll feel better. Feel like you're in low gear do you? I did!
My blood pressure was as high as yours until a couple of months ago. I went to the hospital twice in the last few months thinking I was having a heart attack. All they did was give me a nitro and tell me to see my regular doctor.
I couldn't focus my eyes quite a bit, my head was pounding, I was dizzy, my ears were ringing. Any of those symptoms of mine ring any bells with you?
Mines under control now. Gonna try and keep in that way.
A new diet can always help in more ways than one you know. I'm sure you have people that want to see you stick around for a while don't you?
Just a thought.

I have been taking meds for several year and I exercise daily either just go walking for 30 minutes or going to the gym. Since I was told that i was type 2 diabetic I started reading labels and watch what I eat. I like to eat fish but catching them is more fun.

Yep...does kinda sound similar.
I was dizzy, I had a moment of not walking straight, I was forgetting the little things that just recently happened, and felt like shit.
The Dr said a few times that he was surprised I hadn't stroked.
We still don't know- That's why I have to see the neurologist. My CT scan says I have Mig rains .... however, I only have headaches. This concerns the DR, especially with me forgetting things.
Thanks for the info guys.

Here's another thing-- I do have a home BP machine. My rates went from SUPER high to a lot lower within a couple weeks. (119/88 today) Is that too fast to drop like that??
I just don't feel well. I'm exhausted and I ache in my joints.
I that part of this? Am I just getting old? Will it eventually go away?

I just don't feel well. I'm exhausted and I ache in my joints. I that part of this? Am I just getting old? Will it eventually go away? I was checked two weeks ago, 120/80. The lady doctor laughed and said, "Biggest change I've seen in anyone in a while who's blood pressure was as high as yours was a while back."
And no, it needs to drop like that.
And being exhausted and aching is part of it. That'll change, you'll see and feel it. It takes a while.
Can't help you with the age, I just know these things from dealing with it myself. I feel better now than I have in a long time.
Just hang in there, even with that, it's still better than being carried into a chapel by 6 strong men.

Mindy the stains come out with the Oxi Clean Laundry spray. And also, there would be no bathroom running if you took the Alli and stayed away from the high fat contents of things. Have a slice of pizza and your in real trouble....Might as well sit on the toilet while eating it....LOL

I'm really grossed out by the greasy fart thing!
Wonder if you would have a grease fire if you tried to light your fart (Blue flame)

Kenny McCormick let his fart on fire

Kim basically if you follow the diet and exercise regime you are on the road to success. You are very lucky that you did not have a stroke.I might have missed it but I did not see where the Doctor put you on cholesoral meds. If you are some of the side effects will be achiness at least in the beginning. Make sure to drink plenty of water and eat a banana because it is a good source of potassium
|
Thanks ....Potass level is 3.9
So, since I have been on the meds, I have had a sharp back pain (mid-back close to where my bra fastens).
I am calling the DR tomorrow- but, WTF??
Is this common with blood pressure meds, water pills, etc??
