So I bought this.....

I've worked for my employer for 29 years. I can retire in 4 years ( yes I am counting down). I have benefits and with universal health care everything I need is all or mostly covered and that will continue until I pass on. I am though always conscious of what I spend being a single income parent. My job is active, it requires lots of driving, in out of vehicles, traipsing up and down stairs, ladders, and rough terrain.

I have always tried to remain fairly fit, and balance my love of food. I still skate, walk the dogs and have on and off again gym memberships.

I am finding though my body is starting to have more aches and pains. Repetitive strain is setting in and I dont seem to be able to recover as easily. I have gone for physio and to the chiro and while it helps the share I pay adds up over time.

I am currently dealing with a pinch sciatic nerve and am doing all the stretching to relieve it but the pain is not fun. I dont tolerate or take any pain meds. I have taken a Tylenol here and there and have tried muscle relaxants.

The other day I invested in a Tens machine ($114). Both my physio guy and my chiro guy have used these machine on me and they have helped. For those who arent aware it uses electric stimulation to alleviate pain and promote healing through improved circulation.

This machine has been wonderful has been great, well worth the money spent. What's even better lying there for the treatment, I am able to part take in some self love... WIn/Win

It sucks to hear you're hurting I hope that works good for you. There is a pain reliever called Arnica. It is a natural type of remedy and it comes in cream and pill form.

When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro.

The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.

I have tried Arnica... hard to find the non-smelly kind though

I have one of those, it's OK, but I prefer this Eucalyptus Oil, it's $40 for an 8oz bottle, but it really works. After I put it on my lower back about 3 times that nerve just goes to sleep.

Hope it helps you . nerve pain is the worst.

Have you tried yoga? I hurt my back a few years back. Doctor wanted to operate. Instead, I started a rehab, and was introduced to yoga. Light stuff.

I still do some of it, including swapping between a Cobra and Child's pose. Back has never given me any more problems and no pain whatsoever.

Might want to wait till the nerve pain subsides though. I'm not an expert , so I would suggest you decide what's best for you.

Thank you, yes I have some yoga moves to try and some other stretches to do. I was the same way when I injured my knee, I chose the gym and havent had an issue since. This one seems a little harder to alleviate, probably because it gets no rest.

Sorry to hear that Tanante, I am sure that is not only annoying but painful especially if you are in a vehicle for an extended amount of time. I assume this is the infamous Dr. Ho machine? lol No pun intended. Like plato above I wonder if yoga would be of any use. Hope you overcome it naughty!! xox

That's great hun that you got that Ten's machine as they do work very good to help out the sciatic nerve pain I am told. You know we do feel more pain the older we get and I have found that walking is the easiest way to alleviate it when we can't do the exercises like we used to do. I hope your day is a good one and your weekend is even better.

Just your average every day run of the mill nana here!!!

Naughtypursuit replies on 11/2/2018 4:18 pm:
Thank you hun. Yes when this clears I need to get back to walking, although I am still skating. Have a fantastic weekend yourself.

I know a few people that have had the electrodes inserted into their bodies...I understand what you are feeling, I was an Iron Worker and a bit older than you. I have experienced sciatic pain twice before...quite debilitating it can be ,,,maybe the "Williams stretches" will help you "https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Williams_Flexion_Exercises#Other_sources" I was told by one of my therapist that air born troops do these to alleviate back pain issues,,,I so these too,,,had L5 fused to S1 in 2016...a few of these moves help me. Heat and Ice ,,analogistic creams and a wrap to start the day and ice to end it with some kind of anti inflammation med worked for me. good luck
also try an inversion machine...stretching the joints of the spine help too.

Naughtypursuit replies on 11/2/2018 4:22 pm:
I do do the William Flexion exercises - my chiro and physio or big proponents and it does help. I think its slower to heal because I havent had a break in whats causing it...a vicious circle. I am hoping the Tens machine will be the difference. I have been on an inversion table a few times...its hard for me to relax in it and let my spine stretch.

Last year somehow I hurt my back. Not sure how and it wasn't the first time this has happened. I bought an inversion table and plus I was doing yoga. You might want to look into that maybe a yoga class.

I currently work in an orthopedic clinic, and I often see individuals who are quite fit happen to have constant pain. Working joints are no joke, and like anything in life, they are prone to wear and tear. All I can say is for everyone to stop and take a moment to ensure one isn't putting so much stress on tired muscles and bones.

Of course, there are other ways to exercise as well, but I think a majority of those here know what those are.

It’s helpful to read this (and all of the suggestions in the comments) because I suspect my on and off hip pain might be the sciatic nerve.

Tens units are very popular in the kink community, but not exactly for pain relief

I have found out of the many things I've tried for me, I discovered one thing by accident. Regular exercise and movement helps me so much.

I've now converted that to working out - resistance exercises work like magic, for me. The other thing is Chiropractic and with the exercise I need to go much less often.

The byproduct for me is I feel so good and so horny when I'm done.

HI Naughty... while in high school I injured my lower back diving off the high board at the pool.. went to a number a doctors, but an osteopath "set" me right by cracking my back... probably not for what ails you, however before I left he told me whenever I showered, at the end I should turn the shower temp down slowly, to the point of ice cold. Sounds unpleasant, but it worked. The cold water drew the blood to my lower back muscles.. really loosened them up and helped reduce inflammation. Still helps after a day hiking, kayaking, yard work, etc.. Let me know if you do try this and how it works for you..
