A Walk on the Beach

Suddenly jolted back into reality, still in a kind of fog, he realized he was on the beach. It was a warm, late summer evening. It was not unlike many evenings he walked this beach, so in a weird way it felt normal. Just different, somehow. Like why was he wearing the linen pants with a button down cotton shirt? Just felt a little overdressed.

Looking up he noticed he was at beach marker 19. That didn't make much sense either. Marker 11 was his spot. It's where the condo's were, that he stayed in for years. It's where he camped, when the weather was cool enough. And it's where so many of his memory's of her lived. Drawn to the spot, he began slowly walking along the beach, heading that way.

It was strange how so many memories of her were flooding back to him. Like a movie, playing in his head. He remembered the first time he took her to the beach. Still trying to fool each other that they were just friends, she had agreed to join him for a weekend at the beach. A game that fell apart the first evening, walking down to the beach.

Standing there watching the last bit of light vanish. The stars starting to come to life. He remembered it like it was yesterday. Looking into her eyes. Feeling like the world was slowing down. He remembered the exact feeling as their lips touched, in what was to be their first kiss. The taste of her lips, the smell of her hair. How even the noise of the waves and the wind had seemed to stop in that moment. There was nothing but her.

Still walking, he remembered one of the times they came camping together. Drinking wine, sitting on a blanket under the stars. It was a cold evening. The beach deserted this time of year. A fire was burning, but it wasn't it's warmth that kept him there. It was her, intertwined with him, that did more than keep him warm. She made him forget it was cold. Making love in a way that seemed to be so much more. Like two souls just melded into one. He remembered that it was that night, looking into her eyes he had promised her, "I will love you until the day I die".

This evening, it was like he could hear himself saying those words again. Photographs of memories just flying through his head. A myriad of joys and pleasure, that spanned the years they had spent together. Thinking to himself, God I love that woman.

He noticed, as he was finally approaching Beach Marker 11, a crowd of people down by the water. Normally one to like the solitude of a walk on the beach, he felt a deep to see what they were doing. As he got closer, he started to recognize some of the people. All converged around someone. His heart jumped a little, as it still did, when he realized it was her. What on earth was she doing here?

Strange, they had all moved into the water. She was standing knee deep in the water. Waves wetting down that wonderful white sundress he had bought her some years back.He called out her name, but she just continued doing what she was doing, like he wasn't there. She was pouring something into the waves.

In that instant, clarity overtook him. The tears in her eyes. Her looking right at him, but not seeing him. He knew at that moment, he wasn't there in any form she could see. She was releasing, his ashes back into waves. He remembered telling her that was what he wanted, when he died. Remember her telling him to hush as she gripped his hand tighter.

They were both crying now, as everything started to slowly drift away. Like every thing they shared was being carried on the waves. The pain and sadness overwhelming him. Thoughts screaming at him that he would never hold her again. Through the tears, strangely, a smile came.

He had told her he would never break a promise. And he realized he had, when he told her he would love her until he died. Because wherever this new journey was taking him, he knew he'd still love her when he arrived.

Thanks Trzzz. I've never had any paranormal experiences, so I thought this up today driving around . Something from the other sides's perspective.

Thinking this up today, made me a little sad too.

The idea came to me when I was driving around today. A song I have on my play list , was one of my Dad's favorite songs when he was alive. I learned it and used to play/sing it for him damn near every BBQ or get together

George Jones.

He Stopped Loving Her Today.

"She was pouring something into the waves."
When I read that, I knew what she was doing.

yeah, figured that would tip it.

It's what I've told my kids I want done after i die.

Have a party. Remember the great times. Everyone has to take a shot of Jaegar. And pour one into the waves for me. It's the place I love the most, can't think of a better place to say goodbye.

Thanks kissin...coming from you that means a lot.

It is sad. Makes me wonder at times if I'm destined to just walk that beach alone one day. I'll still have some good thoughts..My kids, things I loved in life..But wonder if they'll ever be that "her".

I wonder, if when people get to the other side - they still get to see the show going on over here.

If they do, I'd like to say my only thoughts are of how nice it will be to see family growing up after I'm gone.

But to be truthful...I'm gonna haunt some peeps too.

Quite a hauntingly sad story. I hope you find that love you seek. I hope you find some inspiration for songs and some motivation to write. I am in a similar boat that is rudderless when it comes to inspiration. I may have an idea for something regarding Indian Summer and nostalgic sadness. So sadness but also the memory that connects me to this time of year.

It is sad, but it also has some hope to it. Like finding love that knows no end. Like maybe there is a journey after this one.

Inspiration has been bleak for me lately. This just grew in my mind throughout the day , after hearing a song. Wrote it in 15 minutes, after I got home. That used to be how some songs went. hahaha. Haven't had that happen in a while now.

Beautiful....I think I have found a kindred spirit. There is a very special place in my heart for the sea and one particular beach so many miles away but my ashes will find there way back there in time.

Always good to find another beach lover. My ex wife hated the beach, but for some reason, I married her anyway. LOL Should have been my first clue.

When I go to "my" stretch of the Texas beach, you go through Corpus. Then to get to the island, you cross a big bridge. Every time I go, once I hit the bridge the windows come down and the smell of the ocean fills the truck. It's like I can immediately feel every bit of stress just melt away.

Just my idea of perfect. Thanks for posting.

I knelt
at her
grave site
with flowers
to offer her
I kept
her grave site
immaculate
I felt
a tear
drop to
the ground
like magic
an image
of her appeared
before suddenly
she was
with me again
was it real
my mind
playing tricks
on me
it was
halloween night
that I decided
to visit her grave
aberration nightmare
that I had lost her
